Looking for wheels and sights around Milan

Quote from Corney on April 15, 2026, 9:09 pmSo I've got a tournament coming up in Milan next month, eastern martial arts competition. Been training like crazy for about six months straight and honestly think I've got a shot at placing high, maybe even taking first if everything clicks. The competition runs three days but I'm gonna be there for about a week total because it'd be stupid to fly all the way to Italy and just sit in some gym the whole time. I want to actually see the city and maybe hit up some spots in the surrounding area when I'm not competing. What's worth checking out around there? And more importantly, where can I rent a decent car that's not gonna drain whatever prize money I might win before I even get it?

Quote from Scoopy on April 15, 2026, 9:16 pmMate, good luck with the tournament, sounds like you've been putting in serious work. Milan's got some cool stuff but honestly the real magic is outside the city limits. You've got Lake Como about an hour north which is absolutely stunning, then there's the whole wine region if you head towards Piedmont. The Duomo cathedral in the city center is pretty mind-blowing too, took them like 600 years to finish building it. Just don't get stuck doing the typical tourist trap circuit where you're paying twenty euros for a coffee.

Quote from Basileus on April 15, 2026, 9:29 pmYep, the touristy zones will bleed you dry if you're not careful, prices get ridiculous near the main attractions. Having your own ride makes a massive difference because you can actually explore at your own pace and get to the smaller towns where things are more reasonable. You can rent a car in Milano here: https://getrentacar.com/en-US/italy/milan . They've got tons of options from local owners who are way more flexible on pricing and terms than the big corporate chains. Plus they'll deliver the vehicle wherever you need it, so you don't have to schlep across town to some rental lot after your fights.
